The book of Mark begins saying, “The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.” What is the gospel? Gospel simply means “good news.” It is a message that the Bible proclaims from the first page to the last. The Bible itself summarized the gospel like this:

“Let me now remind you, dear brothers and sisters, of the Good News: …Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said.” [1 Corinthians 15.1-4 NLT]

But why did he have to die? Does it matter to me? Is the “good news” really good?
